Mosaic from SSP is a modular, configurable safety PLC for the protection of machines or systems. It is suitable for monitoring several safety components such as safety light curtains, laser scanners, non-contact safety sensors, mechanical switches, floor mats, emergency stop switches and two-hand circuits by using a single flexible component in a design of just 22.5 mm. Depending on the complexity of the safety requirement, the system can consist of just one main device (Master M1 module) or - with maximum configuration - of the main device and 14 extensions (a total of 128 outputs, 16 safety outputs, 16 feedback or residual inputs and 32 signal status outputs). Thanks to the MCT module, parts of the system can be accommodated decentrally in separate control cabinets and connected to the M1 main module. The main module and the expansion modules communicate via the 5-way MSC bus (Mosaic Safety Communication), which is located on the back of each module. Machine designers can use the "MSD" (Mosaic Safety Designer) programming software to make any necessary changes. Functions such as safe speed, safe direction of rotation or safe standstill are part of the safety PLC up to PLe in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1. Gateways for Profibus DP, Profinet, Ethercat, Ethernet IP, Devicenet, CANopen and USB are available for connection to a higher-level control system.
