Schleicher Electronic is expanding its XCx control line with the XCA 1277 machine controller. By upgrading to Windows 7 embedded and the Intel i7 multicore processor, applications with up to 64 interpolating axes and 32 systems are possible. Instead of a sensitive and heat-producing hard disk, a 64 Gbyte solid state disk (SSD) is used. The real-time operating system VxWorks for machine control and Windows 7 embedded for visualization and communication run in parallel. The Real Time Hypervisor ensures secure tandem operation. This divides the processor power between the two systems and guarantees an independent supply even in the event of a fault. If Windows fails and restarts, the control software continues to run. The operating systems are protected against system errors, malware or operating errors by broadband filters: Unwanted software changes only affect the RAM memory; after each restart, the systems return to their original state.
