With the SCT202 'M1' automation module, Bachmann electronic is expanding its portfolio of safety modules with a product for speed and position detection for safety-critical applications, particularly in the wind range. The use of this module eliminates the need for external solutions for safe speed monitoring. The joint use of the measured variables for safe and non-safe automation tasks reduces the system costs of controlling a wind turbine - from acquisition, integration and installation to operation. The module also offers two inputs for incremental encoders (HTL, TTL) including encoder supply for both voltage levels, two counter inputs and two safe inputs and outputs each. The provision of measured values for non-safe applications is not tied to the safety cycle; instead, the concept enables the module to be used as an integral part of the operational management of a wind turbine. Its safe digital outputs enable a safety response in less than 1 ms. The module offers various referencing methods (homing) for incremental encoders. Possible applications include the detection of overspeed situations, gearbox breakage and cable twist. The module has certificates for SIL 2 / PL d in accordance with IEC 61508, ISO 13849, IEC 62061 and IEC 61131-6.
