Siemens is expanding its portfolio of integrated drive systems (IDS) with a new drive series with synchronous reluctance technology. As an integrated drive system, the reluctance motor and inverter are specially matched to each other and, according to the manufacturer, enable particularly efficient operation compared to asynchronous motors. Predefined parameters in the form of a code on the motor nameplate simplify commissioning. The series is based on the 1LE1 motor platform and is matched to the Sinamics G120 inverters. The Simotics reluctance motors cover a power range from 5.5 to 30 kW and are available with both an aluminum housing for general ambient conditions (Simotics GP) and a cast iron housing for harsh ambient conditions (Simotics SD). Thanks to the synchronous principle, the speed remains constant and sensorless vector control ensures optimum operating behavior. Both features facilitate the controllability of the drive train.
