The High Integrity (HI) Safety System from ABB is a stand-alone solution with which users of different control systems can implement a certified safety system. The product was designed for applications where in-depth integration into the control system is not required. The TÜV-certified version enables the use of ABB's HI-Safety system with SIL 1-3 and the connection of all necessary data sources to the existing control system and the operator interface. With this system, the existing technology can be developed to newer versions of IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. The product includes an object-oriented engineering environment with SIL-certified safety libraries. It also includes IEC 6113103-compliant programming languages and a diagram editor that protects against non-SIL-compliant configurations. The core functions include access control, confirmation of actions, forced operation, time stamping in the millisecond range, system diagnostics and the logging of deviations. Communication interfaces such as Modbus and OPC enable connection to process panels and ABB control systems or to the software and control systems of other providers.
