In 1996, Siemens coined the term "Totally Integrated Automation". 14 years later, the vision of integrated automation without interfaces and barriers appears to be becoming a reality. The basis for this is the "TIA Portal" framework presented at SPS/IPC/Drives 2010, which in future will provide common services and properties and ensure uniform, consistent system behaviour - from the controller to the visualization to the drives.
