Leine & Linde offers an incremental encoder with High Current HTL (HCHTL) signals for use in installations according to SIL2/PLd, Level 3. Thanks to the already integrated safety solution, a second encoder or sensor is no longer required to meet redundancy requirements. Until now, an incremental encoder with a 1 Vpp signal was generally used, which is not suitable for critical environments due to its weak signal. The new FSI 800 series with HCHTL signals for 9 to 30 V(DC) also meets the requirement for long cables (over 300 m). The square-wave signals are monitored internally in the encoder. If a fault is detected, the encoder signals switch to safe mode or indicate the fault via the status output. A safe stop or safe reduced speed can also be realized in this way. Slip-free shaft mounting in the hollow shaft version can be achieved by fitting a cylindrical shaft journal with a notch on the motor side. This means that the safe rotary encoder can only be mounted on a safe shaft adaptation. Unlike the shaft with guide groove, this solution is captive. With the 'FSI 850' shaft encoder, the shaft with keyway must be coupled to the drive shaft using a safe shaft coupling.
