Kollmorgen's S700 series servo drives, built for high-performance applications, will in future offer extended motion safety scope - specifically in the form of 'Safely Limited Position' (SLP) and 'Safely Limited Increment' (SLI). The plug-in module for drive-integrated safety technology is closely interlinked with the device hardware of the servo controllers via a backplane bus. According to the manufacturer, the seamless integration into the controllers halves the issue of 'safe feedback'. SIL 3 can be achieved with a single resolver, for example. The two-channel design has been solved internally. The safety technology integrated into the drive works so quickly that the distances to sources of danger can be reduced. With 'Safely limited position', for example, the end positions of axes can be safely monitored within defined danger and work areas in material handling. The 'Safely limited increment' function makes it possible, among other things, to move drives with safe inching operation relative to a selected position. If the limit values are violated with both functions, the drive is immediately switched off safely.
