Dr. Fritz Faulhaber 's micromotors and microdrive systems are used in blood pressure monitors, sewer robots (photo) and tattoo machines. The family-run company from Schönaich near Stuttgart, which has been recognized as a top innovator, currently employs around 600 people. The pressure to innovate is particularly high in the field of miniature motors: "Every day, we work to achieve an even higher level of miniaturization, precision and power-to-volume ratio," says Reiner Bessey, Head of Development, Platforms and Technology. New developments at the company are subject to structured processes. An important component of this is solution screening, which involves taking a closer look at products from neighboring industries. The principle: attractive technologies are often not really new, but only new for the relevant industry.
