2nd place: Automation of knowledge work. Intelligent software systems that can perform knowledge-related tasks are becoming increasingly important. By combining artificial intelligence, the ability of machines to learn and natural user interfaces, machines can be used in the medical, education and investment sectors, among others. They can take on more and more diverse tasks, for example recognizing speech and answering unstructured questions. According to McKinsey, the additional productivity gained in laboratory research would be equivalent to that of 120 million full-time employees. Over the next twelve years, the economic share will grow to between 5.2 and 6.7 trillion US dollars.
