3rd place: Internet of Things. Thanks to inexpensive sensors and actuators, the global network is finding its way into more and more physical objects and therefore also into everyday processes. The digital collection and evaluation of data is supported by wireless devices for near-field communication (such as
RFID). The Internet of Things can help optimize processes and save up to USD 36 trillion in manufacturing, healthcare and mining. Logistics, for example, can be optimized. And smart metering can also be used to monitor the consumption of natural resources. The technology will generate between 2.7 and 6.2 trillion US dollars in 2025.
