Metabolic diseases are difficult to diagnose. Doctors use single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) for this purpose. To optimize the image results of such examinations, Dr. Alexander Hans Vija and his team in the USA have been working on algorithms, software and hardware solutions for ten years. The scientists have now developed an application that improves the quality of SPECT analyses and makes them much more efficient. Subsequent developments such as IQ-SPECT can reduce both the radiation dose and the duration of the diagnosis by a quarter.
