Modular fiber optic modem from Westermo
© Westermo
Westermo has added two new products to its family of modular fiber optic modems: The devices offer DNV Marine approval (Det Norske Veritas) for both point-to-point connections (ODW-710-F1) and redundant ring applications (ODW-710-F2). They connect a Profibus DP network with a fiber optic network. For this purpose, the 9-pin standard Profibus DP connector is plugged into the D-Sub connector provided. The device automatically detects the data rate so that no configuration is required. Depending on the fiber optic cable (multimode/singlemode), the modems enable a transmission rate of 12 Mbit/s over distances of up to 120 km. The reconfiguration time is less than 5 ms. This allows ring networks of up to 1,000 km to be installed with a high degree of reliability. This is made possible by the use of interchangeable SFP transceivers. These transceivers can also be mixed, for example one line for multimode and the other for singlemode. Depending on the application, the modems can be equipped with multimode 2 km, singlemode 15 km, singlemode 40 km or singlemode 120 km according to customer requirements.
