OpenAI
Platform for ChatGPT variants launched
After some delay, the ChatGPT developer OpenAI has now launched a platform for user-customized versions of the chatbot. The so-called GPTs are based on OpenAI's general chatbot technology, but are specialized for specific tasks.
The specialized GPTs can be, for example, programs that recommend hiking routes, suggest cocktail recipes or help with math questions. The GPT Store is available to paying users of OpenAI. Before the end of the first quarter, OpenAI intends to explain how developers of GPTs will be able to earn money with them in the future.
OpenAI had announced the platform in November and wanted to launch it quickly - but then the management crisis at the AI company threw the schedule into disarray. Co-founder and CEO Sam Altman was fired by the board of directors, but got his job back after protests from employees and investors.
According to OpenAI, users have already developed more than three million specialized GPTs since the platform was announced around two months ago. It remained unclear how many of these are available on the platform.
