EPAM has conducted an international study on the use of AI in large companies (>10,000 employees) with the opinion research institute Censuswide. It shows the extent to which AI is already being used in large companies in Germany and what specific share of company profits AI projects had in 2023 and will have in 2025. The results were evaluated with a view to German companies; conclusions were drawn about the position of the domestic economy in the use of AI in an international comparison.

Surprising findings

  • Almost 40% of companies in Germany see the use of AI as the decisive factor for more than half of their own profits in 2023, and even more than 40% of companies expect this to be the case in 2025. AI is therefore already having a massive impact on value creation in Germany.
  • Over 40% of German companies plan to invest at least USD 10 million in AI in 2025. Germany is in the midfield internationally in terms of the use of AI in companies - but has the highest proportion of disruptors.
  • Germany is the global leader in proofs-of-concept, team-internal and process-related AI deployments, but brings up the rear when it comes to customer deployment - which speaks for an innovative, yet structured and responsible approach.

The degree of maturity

Globally, Germany is in the middle of the pack when it comes to the use of AI in companies. The respondents fall into the following categories: "beginners" 11.80%, "competent" 31.31%, "advanced" 48.48%, "disruptors" 8.41%.
Germany has the highest proportion of disruptors at 8.41%, followed by the UK in second place with 7.64% and France in third place with 6.38%. In the USA, the proportion is 4.95%. This means that the most innovative companies in Germany are already well advanced in their use of AI.
