Product and brand piracy
Starting signal for 'Plagiarius' competition 2020
Once again this year, entrepreneurs, designers and inventors have the opportunity to submit their original products and alleged imitations to the 'Plagiarius' competition and nominate the plagiarist as the winner of the negative prize.
The 'Plagiarius' negative prize has been awarded to manufacturers and retailers of particularly brazen counterfeits and fakes since 1977. The aim of the Plagiarius campaign is to raise public awareness of the unscrupulous business practices of product and brand pirates and to sensitize industry, politics and consumers to the problem. It also aims to increase the appreciation of intellectual property, i.e. innovative and creative achievements. The trophy of the Schmähpreis is a black dwarf with a golden nose as a symbol of the immense profits that imitators make at the expense of creatives and the industry.
Before the annually changing jury of experts selects the winners from all the entries, the alleged plagiarists are notified of their nomination in writing by Aktion Plagiarius and given the opportunity to respond.
The award ceremony will take place at a press conference at Frankfurt's 'Ambiente' trade fair. During the trade fair, which takes place from February 7 to 11, 2020, all submitted originals and plagiarisms will be prominently displayed. The winning products will then be presented online and at Plagiarius exhibitions.
The following must be submitted to the competition
- the original product
- the alleged plagiarism
- the completed application form
- Correspondence with the plagiarist, if any
- copies of registered industrial property rights, if applied for
- any other background information that may be helpful to the jury.
The deadline for the 2020 Plagiarius competition is November 30, 2019.
