02 - Micro-Epsilon: Geometry inspection of long products in the metal industry
The DimensionControl Metal Profile Gauge(MPG) from Micro-Epsilon is used for automatic profile measurements of long products made of steel, aluminum and non-ferrous metal and can be easily integrated into the production line thanks to its horseshoe-shaped frame. It performs true 3D measurements and is designed for the special requirements of the metal industry with harsh environmental conditions (dirt, dust and temperature fluctuations). The system can be equipped with either precision micrometers or red and blue laser profile scanners and can thus be adapted to the respective measuring task. Pneumatic protection is available for the sensor optics, and water cooling is also available for material temperatures above 1,000 °C. An integrated and fully automatic calibration is carried out to compensate for mechanical long-term temperature drifts. The system is used along the rolling mill for process control, quality assurance and good/bad part assessment. The profile measurements can be carried out in both the hot and cold rolling areas.
