Hermes Award goes to Sumitomo Cyclo Drive
The fully integrated Tuaka drive for robot applications from Sumitomo Cyclo Drive was honored with the Hermes Award 2022.
On the evening of May 29, the winner of this year's Hermes Award was announced: Sumitomo Cyclo Drive convinced the jury chaired by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Reimund Neugebauer, President of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The award-winning product Tuaka is a completely integrated drive. The gearbox, the motor and the driver with safety functions are all new. Thanks to its sensor technology and thermal management, the product is suitable for high-precision sensitive applications in service robotics and for interaction with humans. The modular concept and the modular systems enable application-specific configuration of the necessary hardware.
"Sumitomo Cyclo Drive Germany GmbH is a worthy winner of the Hermes Award, which impressively demonstrates its innovative strength with the Tuaka product. This solution is not only technologically impressive: the fully integrated drive for robot applications and automation technology is suitable for high-precision sensitive applications in service robotics as well as for interaction with humans. In addition, the modular concept and the modular systems enable application-specific configuration of the necessary hardware," said Prof. Neugebauer, explaining the jury's decision.
