Business calls for a reduction in bureaucracy
Associations urge implementation of the 'Omnibus I' package
Nine leading business associations criticize the failure of Omnibus I in the European Parliament and call on the EU and the German government to swiftly implement the planned reduction in bureaucracy to ease the burden on companies.
After more than a year of political announcements to reduce bureaucracy, nine business associations have written an open letter to EU and federal politicians. The reason for this is the failure of the 'Omnibus I' package in the European Parliament in October, which had previously been negotiated as a compromise to simplify reporting and due diligence obligations.
The associations, including BAVC, BDWi, BGA, Der Mittelstandsverbund, Gesamtmetall, Stiftung Familienunternehmen und Politik, VCI, VDMA and ZVEI, see this as a fatal signal for the European economy. "Companies finally need planning security, practicable rules and a reduction to the bare essentials instead of further uncertainty," the letter states.
The 'Omnibus I' package is intended to correct the overregulation in sustainability reporting (CSRD) and the supply chain directive (CSDDD), which in their current form cause a disproportionate effort.
The associations are calling on European legislators to present a viable solution in the near future. In the upcoming plenary session, the European Parliament must send a clear signal of reliability and the ability to act. "Without relief, the competitiveness of the European economy is at risk of permanent damage," they conclude.
