Self-employed designersIn demand in the south, best paid in the west
What do self-employed design engineers earn and where in Germany are they most in demand? Which design software is most in demand? The personnel service provider Gulp examined these questions in a recent market study.

However, the breakdown of hourly rates by region shows that freelance designers do not necessarily earn the most where there are the most projects:
Zip code area 4 (Ruhr region and Münsterland) ranks first with an average hourly rate of 69.76 euros. The project strongholds in the south of Germany are only at the bottom of the table when it comes to hourly rates: In zip code area 8, an average of 65.59 euros was demanded (5th place). The greater Stuttgart area (zip code area 7) came in second to last with 62.43 euros. "The price is still determined by supply and demand," summarizes Stefan Symanek. "It may be easier to get projects in the south of Germany, but if you are willing to travel or don't live in southern Germany, you can also get your money in other regions."
