Data leaks more expensive - German companies fix them quickly
Data leaks can be expensive for companies. In Germany, the costs have recently risen significantly - but local companies are among the fastest when it comes to fixing them.
Cambridge/Ehningen (dpa) - According to a study by IBM, German companies are particularly quick to identify and rectify data leaks. On average, they needed 185 days to identify and contain such incidents. This puts them 73 days below the global average, according to IBM.
However, costs in this country have risen significantly. IBM calculated an average of 4.9 million euros, 14 percent more than a year ago. Costs also increased worldwide, but at 10 percent to around 4.5 million euros, they rose somewhat more slowly.
However, the figures should be viewed with a certain degree of caution, as they are based on comparatively few cases - especially for Germany. The annual study looked at claims at around 600 companies worldwide in the period from March 2023 to February 2024, 47 of which were in Germany.
