VDMA
New 'Machine Information Interoperability' department
The VDMA has now founded the new 'Machine Information Interoperability' department to continuously optimize the interoperability of production environments and the Industry 4.0 ecosystem. The focus of the work is OPC UA interface development.
It also forms the basis of the VDMA Umati initiative towards a standardized, strong implementation.
Andreas Faath, head of the department, has now announced the second version of 'OPC UA for Machinery': This includes the machine status, which is required for use cases such as Machine Monitoring or KPI Calculations. This module makes it possible to see the current status of the machine and its components. "The new publication of the OPC UA for Machinery specification, which applies to the entire mechanical engineering industry, is another major step towards the goal of a standardized global language for production," says Andreas Faath.
Stefan Hoppe, President of the OPC Foundation, adds: "The harmonization activities of the VDMA have made it possible to simplify the huge, complex and heterogeneous world of production so that the manufacturing industry can use coordinated cross-industry solutions. The topic-related building blocks of OPC UA for Machinery enable modular use. The use of the building blocks essentially leads to cost savings during commissioning and makes it easier to monitor production." The document is available online free of charge as a VDMA standard sheet and OPC Foundation specification. The public has the opportunity to comment until March 1, 2022.
