The 'InnoSlab Laser' project group takes second prize in the Berthold Leibinger Innovation Award for Applied Laser Technology. The laser platform developed for a diode-pumped solid-state laser enables higher average power and beam quality. According to Fraunhofer, this laser concept can be used wherever a mediator is needed between the excellent but sometimes conflicting properties of disk and fiber lasers. This is particularly often the case with short and ultra-short pulse lasers as well as spectrally pure lasers with high power. The space industry has selected the 'InnoSlab' concept for the Franco-German climate mission 'Merlin' for global mapping of methane distribution in the atmosphere.
