The 'Microphotonics Initiative' funding measure supports numerous projects ranging from design, microstructuring and material integration to assembly and connection technology. The Fraunhofer IOF is involved in several projects. The picture shows a 2D array of 9,100 microprojectors on a 4" wafer with a thickness of 3 mm.
