Automated deburring for efficient turbine production
© Fraunhofer IPA
In addition to the award-winning projects, three other projects from the fields of nanotechnology and robotics were nominated this year.

The project by Manuel Drust, Alexander Kuss and Thomas Dietz is dedicated to the automated deburring of individual components in large-scale mechanical engineering. Until now, the deburring of turbine parts has been carried out manually. In order to automate this process, the Fraunhofer researchers have developed a flexible robot-based system. Fully automatic program creation enables them to reduce throughput times and cut costs. The positional accuracy of the robot-guided tool on the component can also be improved.
