An image processing system from Fraunhofer IIS/EAS uses optical sensors to reliably detect positions and movement patterns and automatically assign them to people or objects. The core of the solution is a sensor system with integrated information processing. It can be used in both building and industrial automation and is based on an image sensor system-on-chip with algorithms for data processing. The system detects the exact location and time of objects and people in a predefined area. It also detects the intensity of their activities. It independently distinguishes people from moving objects, such as fans or monitor images. It can classify these textures independently of the lighting in the environment and forward the results to building or machine control systems, for example. As the object textures are already evaluated in the chip, no real image data is output and localized persons are not visually detected. However, movement tracking or scene analysis is still possible.
