China further expanded its exceptional position in the global mechanical engineering sector last year: Turnover grew by 8% to €826 billion (2013: €766 billion), according to the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Association. The country currently accounts for 35% of global machinery sales. Companies based in China - i.e. Chinese mechanical engineering companies and those that produce in China as subsidiaries of foreign groups - sold more machines and systems than mechanical engineering companies from the USA, Germany and Japan combined.
