At the beginning of this year, there were over 740,000 electric cars on the road worldwide. Around 320,000 new electric cars were registered in 2014. According to the ZSW, the countries with the highest absolute growth rates include the USA in particular: its stock of electric cars rose by around 117,000 (69%) to a total of around 290,000. China also recorded a significant increase: by almost 54,000 to just under 100,000 e-vehicles. This puts China in third place in terms of the number of vehicles in circulation - just behind Japan. The 100,000 e-car mark was exceeded there, albeit at a comparatively low growth rate of 45%. What all three countries have in common is that they all have market incentive programs for electromobility. China has now switched to only promoting domestic e-vehicles.
