The production of lithium-ion batteries for vehicles is currently almost exclusively in Asian hands: "The majority of vehicle batteries come from Japan or South Korea," explains Tillmetz. Energy storage systems are the key technology for the drive systems of the future and determine the cost, range and safety of vehicles, among other things. "If Germany wants to secure the high share of batteries in value creation, it needs a coordinated strategic approach to establish German production," demands Tillmetz.
