'Trevista' is an industrial image processing method for the automated inspection of technical and decorative surfaces. It was developed for the 100% inspection of components with surfaces ranging from shiny to diffusely scattering. With Trevista Cylinder, Stemmer Imaging now offers a variant for the inspection of cylindrical surfaces. It works on the basis of a patented 'Shape from Shading' technology, in which information about the three-dimensional shape of an object is obtained from the shading of surfaces. For testing, the cylindrical test objects are rotated around their longitudinal axis under the system's dome light. During this movement, the system's line scan camera records the object line by line at four times the scanning speed; the profile data obtained in this way produces flat images of the unrolled object surface. In these synthetic images, inspection features such as scratches, burrs, dents, discolorations or grinding marks can then be examined based on their inclination, curvature and texture.
