7th place: Genetic engineering. Between 0.7 and 1.3 trillion US dollars could be generated with modern genetic engineering in twelve years. The scientific progress in decoding the human genome is enormous. This includes faster, cheaper and more advanced DNA analyses, as well as technologies for coding DNA. They are used in medicine and agriculture, for example. Thanks to faster diagnoses and better medicines, genetic engineering will be responsible for 75% of all life-prolonging measures by 2025, according to McKinsey.
