The rapid development of new investments in recent years has led to a continuous increase in foreign direct investment stocks: from 292 billion euros in 2010 to 549 billion euros in 2011. More than half of the stocks originate from countries in the European Union. If investments by companies from other European countries are included, the share rises to almost two thirds. This is followed by North America, Asia and the Middle East.
