9th place: 3D printing. According to McKinsey, digital models created using the 3D printing process based on a digital template will be widely used in the future. This is due to the higher quantities and the associated drop in prices. They are suitable for manufacturing tools, smaller end products and even for printing biological structures and organs. End consumers could save up to 60% of the costs with self-printed products - and also customize them according to their own ideas. McKinsey puts the economic prospects at between 0.2 and 0.6 trillion US dollars.
