Riding in the right gear at the first attempt and automatically - this is no longer a problem for Simon Schubotz from Wuppertal. "I've been cycling five kilometers to and from school every day since elementary school. I've noticed that I don't always select the optimum gear and lose time as a result," he explains. The 17-year-old pupil at Carl-Fuhlrott-Gymnasium has solved this everyday obstacle with an automatic bicycle gearshift and a computer chip. When the cyclist enters hilly terrain, for example, the gears change to a lower gear. The 'Invent a Chip' jury rewarded Schubotz with first place and prize money of 3,000 euros.
