... is the 'Romo' robomobile from the German Aerospace Center. It won the prize in the newly created 'Product Concept / Vision' category: 'Romo' is designed to enable autonomous driving with unprecedented mobility. The vehicle is based on the so-called wheel robot concept: drive, steering, damping and brakes are integrated into each of the four wheels. The wheel robots are coordinated via an intelligent central control system. The vehicle is omnidirectionally maneuverable - i.e. it can drive at an angle and sideways and also turn on the spot thanks to the individual wheel steering in 'crab or crab walk'. DLR sees the strengths of this maneuverability above all in large cities and in the logistics sector.
