With version 10.1 of the 'Comos' software solution, Siemens is expanding its industrial software offering for the process industry in the area of plant planning and plant management. The Comos Enterprise Platform for cross-trade collaboration has been further developed to include the 'Comos Industrial Database (Comos iDB)', which is designed to meet the sector-specific requirements of different industries. New projects are easy to install as fewer customizations are required. The integration of Comos with the 'Simatic PCS 7' process control system enables the planner or operator to carry out integrated engineering of process plants with central data storage. The consistent and bidirectional exchange of information between the two systems has been further developed to reduce time and costs in overall plant planning. For example, functionally planned sequence controls, types and instances can now be transferred to a plant-specific automation function in Comos. Another innovation for plant management is the further development of 'Comos Walkinside'. The 3D visualization software realistically depicts systems of any complexity even before they are commissioned. The tool accesses the database in Comos directly. By logically linking the geometric objects with the engineering data, the 3D image of the system is always kept up to date throughout the entire system life cycle. Head-mounted devices (virtual reality goggles) and gamepads for controlling the virtual characters give the user the impression that they are moving around the plant themselves.
