Machinery exports rose by 1.7% to 152 billion euros last year. The largest buyers of German machinery were the EU-28 countries with 65.3 billion euros (up 7.3%). Machines worth 38.9 billion euros were exported to Asia and 23.3 billion euros to North and Latin America combined. The largest single foreign market was China with 17 billion euros, followed by the USA with 15.1 billion euros and France with 9.8 billion euros. Imports from the EU-28 countries rose by 5.7% to 36.3 billion euros. With an increase of 14.1% (4.5 billion euros), China has become the third largest supplier of mechanical engineering products on the German market, leaving France and the USA behind. The strongest single supplier is Italy with 5.9 billion euros, followed by Switzerland with 5.3 billion euros.
