Siemens continues to develop its portfolio of flexibly configurable controllers for demanding tasks in the process industry. As a first step, the Simatic S7-410 has been coated as standard for operation in environments contaminated with harmful gases. In addition, the fault tolerance of the redundant system has been further increased and the ambient temperature range has been extended to a maximum of 70 °C. This means that users can also deploy the controller of the 'PCS 7' process control system in harsh environments, for example in the oil and gas sector. Further planned steps include the expansion of Profinet functionality. The controller is an integral part of the 'Simatic PCS 7' process control system. Thanks to the consistent scaling, it is possible to use a standardized hardware and software environment from small systems with 100 I/Os to large systems with over 100,000 I/Os. The controller is available in a normal, a high-availability and a fail-safe version.
