The
IS1+ remote I/O system from R. Stahl also supports 'Profinet for process automation' in Zone 1 and 2 hazardous areas. This broadens the range of available variants for Ethernet applications - previously, communication was possible via Modbus TCP or Ethernet/IP. Fiber optic cables with 'ex op is' type of protection ensure explosion protection and interference-free transmission even over long distances. System integration takes place via the Profinet GSDML, which, according to the supplier, allows more convenient and largely automated integration of the IS1+ functions in the engineering system compared to the Profibus GSD. Similar to Profibus PA, module functions are mapped via transducer and function blocks, which enable both diagnostics and, for example, scaling with units. With mode handling, signal transmission can be specifically controlled as 'Auto' (cyclical update), 'Manual' or 'O/S' (Out of Service). The status information compliant with Namur recommendation 107, such as 'Maintenance required' or 'Out of specification', provides the operator with a quick overview of the quality of a signal without having to consider the causes of errors.
