Pilz launches the operating mode selector switch Pitmode in a new design and optionally with pictograms for machine tools. The use of standard symbols makes it suitable for international use. Two functions are available in one device: the safe selection of defined operating modes and access authorization to the machine. On the one hand, the control unit reliably recognizes defined operating modes: the operating mode selector switch reliably switches from one operating mode to another by means of self-monitoring. Five adjustable operating modes are possible - automatic mode, set-up mode, manual intervention under restricted conditions, special mode or process monitoring and service mode. Thanks to the LED display, the currently selected operating mode can be displayed in a tamper-proof manner, as can the authorization level. The switch can be used for applications up to PL d in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 or SIL CL 2 in accordance with EN 62061. On the other hand, access authorization to the machine can be regulated: Each operator is given access to the machine functions or machine operating modes approved for them via the coded key. Thanks to the contactless transmission of the key identification number based on RFID technology, the individual authorization levels are selected in the machine control system.
