Leoni presents the iEVC (illuminated Electrical Vehicle charging Cable), a charging cable with a status-indicating light function. The cable visually accompanies the charging process of a vehicle by changing the color of the cable sheath. By integrating this lighting unit along the charging cable, the driver can also see the charging status of their electric car or plug-in hybrid from a greater distance and without the use of additional devices. In addition, optical signals are used to display further information, such as a fault-free connection or a malfunction. The uniform illumination of the cable over its entire length prevents the cable from posing a tripping hazard in dark or poorly lit areas. The system can be used universally from home charging to supercharging, regardless of the vehicle and charging mode. As the illuminated charging cable does not contain any electronics or active light sources that could impair its mechanical properties, it is just as robust as conventional charging cables.
