Challenges in functional safety in conjunction with artificial intelligence

Prof. Dr. Ossmane Krini, Director of the Institute for Functional Safety, Cyber Security and AI at DHBW Lörrach

© DHBW

Robotic systems are becoming increasingly important in critical applications. However, there are currently only a few methods that can reliably predict critical failures or a critical failure rate for critical systems. Stochastics and probability theory play an important role in this.

However, new approaches need to be developed so that reliable predictions can be made. A new approach reflects the remaining number of critical failures and focuses on the differentiation of both critical and non-critical failures in software, e.g. software for real-time systems.

The paper gives an overview of the creation of an estimator that focuses on fault detection in safety-related systems.

From availability to supply chain integrity

Udo Schneider, IoT Security Evangelist Europe at Trend Micro

The security of industrial environments is increasingly becoming the focus of discussion. On the one hand, there are buzzwords such as Industry 4.0, smart factory or disruptive business models - and the opportunities they promise. On the other hand, there are often fears about availability, attacks by cyber criminals or possible reputational damage.

In the web seminar, Udo Schneider takes a look at the phases of increasing networking towards modern "intelligent" systems and highlights various security measures appropriate to each phase.

If you want to have a good overview of your OT network, you need to know all the assets in the network! But the documentation must also be kept up to date to avoid unpleasant surprises and ensure the safety of your systems at all times.

With the Asset Inventory Service, an up-to-date inventory list of all plant components or the entire production plant can be generated at the touch of a button. In addition, thanks to a comparison with the latest CVE data, all insecure protocols, misconfigurations and other security gaps in the industrial network as well as in the respective devices can be assessed quickly and easily.

Learn more about automatic inventory, risk and vulnerability assessment as well as backup and disaster recovery of all your OT assets for more cyber security in the web seminar with Tim Weckerle!
