First control cabinet made of green steel
The Siemens subsidiary Alpha Verteilertechnik claims to offer the first industrial control cabinet made entirely of green steel.
The 'Sivacon 8MF1' control cabinet series from Siemens subsidiary Alpha Verteilertechnik is made from 100% scrap from European suppliers with wind power. With this step, Siemens is pursuing its sustainability goals in the areas of decarbonization and resource efficiency, which are defined in the DEGREE framework.
In the manufacturing process for the control cabinets,CO2 emissions are 70% lower than for conventional steel, which is usually produced in a blast furnace using iron ore and coal. This reduction translates into a saving of 308 kg ofCO2 per cabinet unit. Steel production is currently responsible for 8% of global emissions. As demand for steel continues to rise, it is crucial to decarbonize production, according to the Group.
The new variant has the same technical characteristics and functionalities as cabinets made from conventional steel. This enables larger industrial customers to reduce theirCO2 emissions and get closer to their sustainability goals.
