Due to the pandemic, this year's competition could not take place in China as planned. The "WorldSkills Competition 2022 Special Edition" is therefore spread across several venues. The teams competing for the title of best robot programmer in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg, come from Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Great Britain, India, Japan, Singapore and Taiwan.

In total, the organizers of this year's WorldSkills are expecting more than 1,100 participants from 57 countries and regions in 61 competition disciplines. The "Robot System Integration" championship is one of the newest disciplines in the competition. It has been organized since 2019 with the support of robot manufacturer Fanuc in order to attract more young people to qualify in the field of robotics.
