One of the two new vessels in Siemens' offshore service fleet has been christened "Esvagt Froude" in the port of Rostock-Warnemünde. Siemens is the first company in the industry to deploy Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) specially built for the offshore sector to service wind turbines. According to the current state of the art, the SOVs are designed to help maintain wind turbines installed on the high seas reliably on site. The ships are intended to ensure greater availability of the wind turbines, thereby increasing the electricity yield and ultimately helping to reduce the cost of wind power. According to Randy Zwirn, CEO of Siemens Power Generation Services, the aim is to raise electricity from wind energy to a "competitive level".
