The basis of integrated engineering at Siemens is the Mechatronics Concept Designer, an integrated machine development application based on NX software from the Siemens Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software suite. With the Mechatronics Concept Designer, machines can be realistically simulated not only graphically, but also on the basis of actual physical data. The virtual commissioning of machine tools that this makes possible enables interaction between the real control system and the virtual machine model. This makes real-time measurements possible, which reveal potential errors in the design before the machine is commissioned. In addition, the effort and time required for real commissioning is significantly reduced, as the user can test the machine extensively on the virtual model and prepare it for use.
