Together with Weidmüller, Belden has developed a modular infrastructure box for connecting production modules. The infrastructure box can be flexibly integrated and put into operation according to the plug-and-play principle. It is compatible with all production modules within "Smart FactoryKL" across all manufacturers. This enables fast data communication, which is used to transmit control commands and status information, among other things, as well as a reliable power supply. The solution is available in protection classes from IP54 to IP69K and for use in explosion protection areas. It consists of the "Connected Security" module from Belden's Hirschmann brand for data communication between the control and actuator/sensor technology as well as components for integrated energy measurement from Weidmüller. All status information and measurement data is provided by the infrastructure box via OPC UA without additional interfaces or middleware. Depending on the efficiency, availability and safety requirements, the infrastructure box can be used in ring, bus and star topologies as well as in island operation.
