In order to be able to produce smaller batch sizes, control functions on modular systems will in future be distributed to smaller, partly decentralized units that are networked with each other. Here, Schmersal's modular PSC1 safety controller offers the option of configuring individual protection systems on a software basis and adapting them to the respective applications. Thanks to the optionally integrated SD bus gateway, additional, non-safe diagnostic signals can be forwarded to an automation controller via a standard bus system when using safety switching devices with SD bus functionality. This means that signals that are relevant for preventive maintenance can also be evaluated.
